Human Nature
“GREED AND COMPETITION ARE NOT THE RESULT OF IMMUTABLE HUMAN TEMPERMENT…GREED AND FEAR OF SCARCITY ARE IN FACT BEING CREATED AND AMPLIFIED …THE DIRECT CONSEQUENCE IS THAT WE HAVE TO FIGHT WITH EACH OTHER IN ORDER TO SURVIVE”

a. I did NOT realise that I am annoying and disturbing hundreds of people as I roar past in my noisy big motorcycle/ SUV/ expensive sports car (so called, though I play no sports in it). I apologise and will stop doing it.
b. I DID realise that, but I do not care about how I’m bothering other people, because only my thrills are important. I’m too rude and unpleasant a person to apologise or to stop it.

One thing I’ve been disappointed and a bit surprised about is the quite high number of people who ignore polite, nice messages. It’s understandable that someone very famous with millions of fans does not reply to every message. But it seems quite common that people, shops, magazines, societies etc that are only slightly well known or even just starting up don’t reply to messages… even to supportive, complimentary ones.
Quite often I’ve sent some nice message to a person, publisher, podcast, association etc…it gets a tick for having been seen… but they never bother to reply. Maybe it happens about a third of the time or more. I find that a bit confusing and disappointing. Of course, folk will say ‘they are just busy or forgot. Easy explanation’. But I don’t think that explains it fully.
As for myself I quite often get a message from someone about my books, and a question i get asked quite a lot is ‘how to get into the manga industry in Japan?’. I would say I reply 99% of the time (to anyone who has not got a reply I apologise, I was ‘too busy or forgot!’ hehe…). To the ‘manga industry’ question, I've had it so often that I've written out a long reply and simply cut and paste that to the person. Easy, only takes a minute. And the folk are often very appreciative (I once got a message from 13 year old manga fan living in the Gaza Strip, of all places, and she was very happy to get my reply).
Replying just seems basic politeness to me. At least a ‘Thanks, I appreciate it’ reply.
