Abuse in the street
For young kids in Britain the main thing that attracts their abuse is ANYTHING unusual. In the late 80s, when 60s style was very different from the main style, I got people in Scotland (my OWN country) laughing and shouting at me in the street EVERYDAY. I mean literally everyday... That went on for about four years until 60s style started to become mainstream in the early 90s - and then the abuse reduced a lot. So, in the UK anything that 'normal' teenagers or folk in their 20s too consider 'odd' often makes that person a target for abuse while out in the streets, in public anywhere- the main categories being race, sexuality, clothes style, body style or religion. Some would say that we should not lump racist reasons for receiving abuse with those of clothes style. clearly there is a difference, so I am not lumping them together as if there is no difference. I'm listing those as the key 'triggers' for receiving abuse, without saying everything in the list is the same.
